There is Not Much That Finishes Off a Man’s Power Suit as a Pair of Timeless Cufflinks

August 30, 2008

I am really looking forward to July 27.

The television show Madmen returns that day to AMC, and I know it’s going to be a really big deal - because I keep reading about what a big deal it is going to be. Seriously, I was at the dentist the other day and every other magazine on the coffee table had an article about the show.

This show, from what I can gather, is a sort of less starry-eyed part of the parcel of TV fare that gave us Happy Days and American Dreams. This is the nitty-gritty of that largely unseen bastion of maleness - the office. My father went to work in an office his whole life, and aside from the fact that he was “at work,” I really had no idea what went on there.

And if it was anything like the office on Madmen, I know why Dear Old Dad wasn’t sharing any tales about the workday with Mom when he got home. The show really tells a great story about how intertwined relationships get when creative, driven people put in long hours together out of the sight of their loved ones back in the suburbs.

I don’t know that everyone was really sleeping with everyone else at my dad’s office. In fact, I rather think that this wasn’t the case, and if it was, my father was not involved. He made such a stink about No Sex in speaking to me, my brothers, and my sisters that it would frankly be just too painful to think that it was all just a big front!

I do like the fact that there seems to be a lot of goofing off going on in between major deals on Madmen. It makes me feel better that on the show, like in my own life, everything gets done - but maybe it doesn’t get done just the way the boss really wants it!

I also like the fact that at the end of the day, the Madmen guys - at least one of them - goes home to the Perfect Suburban House. I keep hearing tat there is No Such Thing, but I know that there is. I see it right on the TV; the beautiful children in their spotless duds running to meet Daddy as he pulls his gas-guzzling American Beauty into the driveway; the lovely wife in her high heels and dress - and underneath, the seamed stockings and 1960s pointy bra - turning an impeccably cooked roast out of the oven, all for dinner at the flawlessly appointed dining table.

You know, I understand that living up to this ideal created a lot of problems and a lot of addictions to various anxiety drugs - but man, it did look good!

Speaking of looking good, the clothes are pretty damned good-looking, too. Obviously, I have a fondness for the tight sweaters and pencil skirts of the secretaries and the waist-cinchers and full skirts of the wives. However, I can set aside my undeniable appreciation for the attire of the ladies just enough to say that back in the day, men really stepped up to the plate themselves in the Fashion Department.

There is a power to the way men dressed back then. A man could be dapper without being foppish or ridiculous. A man could be a man, and no mistake about it.

The dark flannel suit is without a doubt the best-looking thing a guy can wear during the day. I understand that we’ve all taken a shine to the golf shirt/chino package that has become the uniform of the American Man who is not a lawyer, an investment banker, or a professional football player. They are comfortable, but they are not professional.

A power suit is called such for a reason. Paired with an excellent shirt - one made of beautiful cotton or silk, which fits well in the shoulders and collar, and has cuffs that reach just below the wrist bone - a suit will make the man. Even though a lot of the guys on Madmen could not be classified as The Man in any sense, they look like The Man because of their cool suits.

Their accessories are always classic and individual. The prepsters are wearing ties that call to mind the school ties of their Mayflower roots, and the artistic types are wearing hand-painted ties. The conservative guys wear classic ties in patterns like foulards and paisleys, and the younger ones are a bit flashier, as befits their age.

If you’ll notice, the more prosperous of the Madmen are wearing cufflinks. There is not much that finishes off a man’s power suit better than a pair of timeless cufflinks. Whether they are a pair of cufflinks silver engraved with the wearer’s initials or an enameled square. There are literally hundreds of styles available that will show off your personal style while paying credence to the way American men used to dress - and should dress once again.

Whether your interests are in silver, gold, artistic, sports, or other theme-related cufflinks we’ve got you covered. Cufflink Aficionado carries a broad range of cufflinks in silver designed to meet each connoisseur’s individual style and interest. Our selection of men’s designer cufflinks are sure to top off that perfect look.

Tips For Writing a Ski Resort Review

August 30, 2008

If you have just returned from a great vacation at a ski resort, which might not be the best ski resort, but you had fun, you should write a review for that ski resort and pen down all your experiences, good or bad. Writing a ski resort review will help other people who want to plan a trip to ski. When they read your ski resort review, they will come to know what all to do when they reach the ski resort. Also, it will help increase future customers who based on your ski resort review will want to enjoy all the amenities and activities which you enjoyed.

But while writing a ski resort review, you should take into account some points.

Note down the time of the year you visited the resort, its crucial.

If you want visited during a holiday, the resort might have been a little busy, and the customer service, amenities and waiting times might have been different than what they would have been had you visited during the quieter months, so, for a perfect review, it’s very important to mention the time of the year you visited the ski resort. You shall not miss small details while writing a ski resort review and try to share all the moments with the readers who will read it.

You might also write a negative ski resort review if you had problems with the place or if the waiting time was more even if the visitors were less.

How was your actual skiing experience?

A person spending a fortune on a ski resort would definitely be interested in skiing, so this is one aspect you just can’t miss to add in your review. You should write about the slopes, the level of difficulty they offered, the kind of equipment, if the equipment was easily available at the resort itself, or you had to take yours along or rent it from a local vendor. The whole experience about how you felt while skiing needs to be penned down very carefully, therefore the most important thing while writing a ski resort review is the type of equipment and its availability. If you were no able to ski due to the faulty equipment then you should tell others about the possible problems they are bound to face.

About other amenities.

You should tell others about the crucial aspects of the resort. People reading your ski resort review should know if they have to come prepared for any circumstances such as bad quality food, or too much time wasted in a particular activity, try and add aspects like the educational relevance of the trip.

If you liked something, like an additional amenity, the quality of service, the kind of equipment, the dining area, children’s recreational area or maybe the general ambience of the whole place, you should speak out.

Finally, the Ski resort review should contain the website and other official information regarding the resort.Remember, the ski resort review is not only your experience, but also a great vacation for a future traveler

After Tragedy - The Renaissance of New York

August 30, 2008

Prior to September 11, 2001, the 16-acre World Trade Center site was one of New York City’s most familiar landmarks. Following the tragedy, workers spent months clearing the debris and remains of those who died in the attacks. On May 30, 2002, the last remaining piece of structural steel, which had come from the South Tower, was ceremoniously draped with the U.S. flag and carried out. This piece of steel has been recycled as the bow of the new assault ship, USS New York. In addition, Honeybee Robotics incorporated steel debris from the site into cable shields built for the Mars Exploration Rover mission.

The main developer of the new World Trade Center site, Larry Silverstein, heads the group of visionary leaders committed to the redevelopment of the World Trade Center site. Plans include six acres of space, five new skyscrapers, the National September 11 Memorial and Museum, a retail complex, and a performing arts center. When completed they believe it will create a more vibrant future for downtown New York with superior commercialized space, a more convenient transportation system, and a highly commemorative destination for people who live, work, and visit the area.

By 2012, completion of the five World Trade Center office towers will mark a major milestone in the project. Together, with the recently opened 7 World Trade Center to the north of the site and the rising Goldman Sachs global headquarters to the west in Battery City Park, the downtown skyline will feature no fewer than seven new corporate towers comprising 14 million square feet of office space. An architectural landmark for New York City, 1 World Trade Center, the Freedom Tower, will soar 1,776 feet, symbolic of the year 1776, when the Declaration of Independence was signed. The Freedom Tower will become the tallest building in the United States and include office space, an observation deck, world-class restaurants, and more. The tower is scheduled to open in 2011.

The National September 11 Memorial and Museum will serve as a moving and important memorial to the 2,979 people who perished in the 9/11 attacks. It will also serve as a poignant learning experience for student group travelers. The memorial’s design, Reflecting Absence, will consist of two voids on the footprints of the original Twin Towers. Surrounded by a landscaped plaza filled with oak trees, each void will feature rings of cascading water falling into illuminated reflecting pools. The names of the victims in New York City, Washington, D.C., and Pennsylvania, as well as the February 1993 WTC bombing, will be inscribed around the memorial waterfalls.

A state-of-the-art museum will offer student group travelers the opportunity to enhance their experience. Visits will begin at an entry pavilion, as students encounter both the enormity of the loss and the triumph of the human spirit that are at the heart of 9/11. Students will also be able to view a section of the massive slurry wall that held back the Hudson River during the attacks. Construction on the memorial and museum began in March 2006. The memorial is scheduled to open Sept. 11, 2009, with the museum opening to follow in 2010. To date, the September 11 Memorial and Museum has raised more than $300 million of its $350 million goal.

In addition to the Memorial Museum, the cultural component of the new World Trade Center will include a 1,000-seat performing arts center at the northwest corner of Fulton and Greenwich Streets. The modern-dance focused Joyce Theater will be the sole occupant of the center. Although the theater will have the performing arts focus, the building may occasionally used for non-dance events, such as the Tribeca Film Festival, which takes place each spring. Construction for the project will not begin until 2010 or 2011.

The retail area, occupying 500,000 square feet, will be interspersed throughout the site, stretching from as far as the new Fulton Street Transit Center to the World Financial Center. Developed by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, with support from Silverstein Properties, the retail space is expected to be completed by 2012. When completed, the site will be one of the largest business districts in the United States.

More than 5.6 million visitors traveled to Lower Manhattan in 2006. They came to visit the World Trade Center site and to reflect on the tragic events of September 11, 2001. According to the Downtown Alliance, the downtown business improvement district, that’s only half of those expected to head downtown once the National September 11 Memorial and Museum opens in 2010.

Stretching Your Dinner Dollar: A Comparison of Corporate Beef Distributors Vs. Micro Meat Purveyors

August 30, 2008

When it comes to Americans, there are two things that we are very serious about; our money and our food. In the meat and potatoes society that we live in, we expect top quality meat for our hard-earned dollar. Unfortunately, with the changing times the old school method of purchasing quality meats at your local butcher are long gone. Today most Americans purchase meats at the local conglomerate grocery store that purchases its meats from large corporate meat distributors. The majority of the time, we don’t want to take the time to make a second shopping trip to a neighborhood meat market, if there even is one in the vicinity. Thankfully, there are now online micro meat purveyors that will provide you with meat so fresh that you would swear it was cut at a neighborhood meat market and it’s available from the comfort of your home with just the click of a mouse.

The Comparison of Meat Packers and Micro Meat Suppliers

Of course, it is easy to assume that the meats purchased from a mega meat distributor are top quality for your dollar. However, let us not assume before making some comparisons. First let’s take a look at the source of the meat:

• In meat packing companies, animals are often raised in a factory setting.

• The animals are often injected with hormones and antibiotics at the distribution centers to ensure larger cows for heartier beef portions.

• The cows do not receive the care and medical testing from veterinarians that is required to ensure their good health for processing.

• Cows are slaughtered violently.

• The meat is cut in an assembly line.

• If an aging process is used, cuts of meat are all packed into an aging box for three weeks and then removed at the same time with no individual concern.

Meats are also often stored in large meat lockers for an undetermined amount of time which makes the meat lose flavor and nutritional value. Most of the time meats have been stored in these lockers for close to a month before they are shipped to customers like grocery stores where they again sit in a refrigerated cooler before a consumer finally purchases it.

Back in 2004, mayhem ensued when a major corporate meat distributor in Oregon processed beef from a dairy cow infected with mad cow disease. Mistakes like this can happen more often in major meat packing plants than in a small business that specializes in the personal touch.

Smaller meat and steak companies have the luxury of better tending to their products than larger companies. For instance:

• Cows are often raised on a farm or some other synonymous natural setting.

• The animals are not given any hormone shots or antibiotics so the meat is in a natural state.

• The animals are under the care of certified veterinarians to ensure that they are raised in good health for consumer consumption.

Micro meat provisioners also have a fresher take on meat processing. The meats are generally hand-cut like a classic butcher and are stored using temperature, humidity, and air flow to dry age the steak to perfection, which results in flavorful tenderness. With micro meat and steak companies, time and great care are taken to deliver a quality of meat that one cannot expect to purchase from a meat packing facility assembly line.

So, whether your dollar is better spent with a corporate meat packer or a specialty supplier boils down to quality versus quantity. All of the meat will certainly meet FDA requirements. So, if you don’t mind ingesting factory-cut meats that have been injected with hormones and stored in a meat locker for months, then you can definitely purchase more for your buck in a grocery store. However, if you want the meat you place on the family dinner table to have a higher nutritional value, be more natural, succulent, and savory, an online micro meat purveyor can offer great quality and pricing for the value of your dollar.

Write Articles For Money - How to Write Articles For Profit

August 29, 2008

Want a fun creative money making idea? Learn to make money writing articles like this one. In fact there are many folk who make whole lifestyles from writing articles and I’m not talking about professional writers in the author mould, I’m talking about normal everyday folk just writing articles and making money from home. Let you creative streak out, it’s really quite easy.

Writing articles for money has become a popular way to make a home business whether its just a bit of extra cash or for that whole lifestyle. It is sometimes called ‘bum marketing’ although I believe there are some distinctions to be drawn on that point. Bum marketing is really a subset of the wider article writing sphere, targeted to specific niches. This strategy is often used by affiliates of various marketing programs. It involves targeting a particular product and a specific keyword or phrase that the affiliate sees some opportunity in for search engine listings. We’ll come back to that in a moment.

Article writing in its wider sense can be thought of as the activity of writing articles for blogs and websites, or articles to be compiled into topical reports and ebooks to be sold on the net, and of course article writing can also for a website owner who wants a writer to create content for cash. Take a look at eLance.com to see the variety of demand for article writers.

If you intend making your living by it then get some practice first! While there is lots of opportunity and your articles don’t have to be creative masterpieces, they do need to be informative and structured so as to lead readers to where you want them to go. You will need a little practice to get into a rhythm of producing good articles.

One rewarding way to practice is to go to Paydotcom.com or Clickbank.com and look through the various products there. Sign up for an affiliate account and then pick a product to write about. Pick something you already know is in demand and that maybe you have some basic knowledge on, though you can also pick something and research it a little. Find out what keywords folk re likely to be using when they are searching for such a product. Pick a phrase they use and write an article based around that phrase.

When your article is ready, post it on article directories or at Squidoo.com, Hubpages.com or other free websites like say Blogger.com. Try to make variations of it and post it to several of those sites. Include a link or two to your chosen affiliate product using the affiliate code you got when you signed up at Clickbank or wherever. Interlink some of the articles and pages so the search engines can find your articles and you’ll get some readers.

When you have had a few sales this way you’ll know you are starting to get things right! You’ll soon find yourself picking all sorts of niche areas to write about and profit from! Even niches you never thought about before will start to look attractive enough to make you do a little research and article writing. Warning - earning commissions like that is highly addictive!

What is stopping you? Think you can’t write well enough to make a shopping list? So did I once but this little article here took me about 20 minutes just now and articles I have just like it are making a little money every month. Check out the links below if you would like to know more.

New Dawn For North Cyprus Property Market

August 29, 2008

The election, in February of this year, of Demetris Christofias in South Cyprus has produced a shift in the diplomatic relationships between the Greek and Turkish sides of the island. Christiofias’ predecessor, Tassos Papadopoulos helped persuade the Greek population to reject the Annan plan in 2004. The Annan plan was viewed as the most adept piece of potential legislation to so far offer a solution to the Cyprus Problem. Greek Cypriots rejected the plan, which was put to referendum in 2004, whilst Turkish Cypriots voted almost unanimously in favour of it. The now departed Papadopoulos, along with other Cypriot leaders, encouraged the South of the island to reject the plan.

Christiofias’s election is somewhat of a new dawn for the relationship between North and South Cyprus, as his ascension to power places a man viewed as a moderate in the place that was occupied by a rather uncompromising nationalist. Christiofias has met Mehmet Ali Talat, the Turkish Cypriot leader, many times since his election, and now a date of September the third this year has been set as the day when direct negotiations will start between the two sides, just over 34 years since the Turkish invasion that divided the island.

President Christofias described the setting of this date in September as ‘a step forward, a positive development’ and there is no doubt that a launching of discourse between the two sides is an important and progressive step toward reunification. This time last year the situation looked far more glum, with the outlook on both sides resembling the dismal and entrenched views that have historically characterised the situation. The current outlook on both sides highlights the fact that even long established issues, such as those that make up the Cyprus Problem, can be retracted and worked around even after years and years. For investors, the current climate shows that it can only take a change in administrations, or some other transformation, for a pep to be placed in the workings of a feasible mechanism toward reunification.

Talat and Christiofias are seen by many journalists and analysts to effectively share a leftwing world view. Whether this shared world view will help to clear the way for negotiating around the more sticky issues – such as ongoing security for both Turkish Cypriot and Greek Cypriot communities, or the presence of the 40,000 Turkish troops in the North, is, of course, yet to be seen. The fact is though that both Talat and Christiofias have already agreed on some points and have an agreement on issues that have previously remained unresolved.

Both sides have agreed to cooperate on issues such as the environment, crime, emergency management and the preservation of cultural heritage. Even though these sound like incidentals, they point toward a future far removed from the recent past, where these things would not have been discussed in a generous manner between the two sides. Both sides insist that they already have the blueprints and have covered enough groundwork that the basis of a solution should be feasibly reached with the year.

For those looking to invest in the North Cyprus property market, these developments should be taken as reassurance that the move toward reunification is firmly in progress; the symbolic gesture undertaken by both leaders of placing a direct line between their offices for the first time is an icon for the change underway on this island.

Where To Find And Who Makes Replica Watches

August 29, 2008

There are many instances where you can find a variety of replicas made to resemble a variety of different products. Probably one of the most popular choices in replicas that are made today, and one that is much sought after, would be the design and craftsmanship that is incorporated into many of the styles that are available today in replica watches.

It is a widely known fact that Switzerland is extremely popular, both far and wide for many of their luxurious and elegant designs that a majority of their master jewelers continue designing to this day. The result of this ends up being the highest quality of timepieces that can be found anywhere in the world.

Different Kinds of Replica Watches

August 29, 2008

There is much to consider when deciding on a watch. A watch is just something worn around the wrist that can accurately keep time. In times past, watches were predominately kept in the pocket particularly doing the early half of the twentieth century. Not all watches are created equal even though the primary functions stay the same.

A watch crafted from precious metals such as gold and silver will cost you more than a plastic based watch. What the watch runs on is also a factor you should consider when choosing a watch. Not all watches are made just to keep time either. Optional watch functions may include the date, an alarm, calendars and times in other parts of the world.

Everything mentioned above applies to replica watches which are just imitations of other brands. A platinum Rolex can cost you hundreds of thousands of dollars but a replica molded after that same watch can be found under one hundred dollars. Even though the look and function is the same the replica brands generally aren’t made using precious metals. Even though a watch may be a replica, that doesn’t mean that the quality is any lower than any other watch. Here are a few types of watches with a little information as to how each one functions.

Kinetic Replica watches

Some of the more advanced replica watches utilize kinetic energy to run on. There’s no battery contained in Kinetic replica watches at all. The need to replace batteries and the winding of the watch are completely absent. It is simply run by using the energy exerted by the person who wears it. An electrical charge is then created to power the watch. As long as the person continues to move, the watch will continue to function. Energy is stored up into the watch from previous uses which allows the watch to function for a period of time when energy isn’t being created.

Analog Replica watches

An analog based watch is a watch that uses the “hand system”. The three hands are used to keep track of the minute, hour and second. The positions of the hands, in accord with the numbers on the watch are factored in to determine the time. These kinds of replica watches are the most commonly used watches on earth.

LCD Replica watches

LCD, short for liquid crystal display is another type of watch that displays the time without using the hands method. This battery or electrical operated way shows the time in the form numbers. The display is similar to a microwave’s display. Both use the same LCD technology. Instead of having to determine the time based on the position of the hands, the time is just shown in numeric form. An example would be 3:25, where the three is the hour and the twenty five is the minute.

Quartz Replica watches

This particular watch is vastly different from the rest and its invention was a modern breakthrough in the way we view time. Just as the name suggest, quartz replica watches are replica watches that measure the time by using a thin amount of quartz crystal. The quartz vibrates rapidly when given an electric charge. The vibration emitted enables the watch to keep time. It has been discovered that the quartz based replica watches are slightly more accurate than other forms.

How to Care For Your Watch

August 29, 2008

When you own a beautiful watch, everyone notices it. They may remark on it and compliment you on this beautiful timepiece. Alternatively, they may simply regard you as a person who is quite successful. After all, a person with a great watch must be making a great living and doing quite well for themselves.

It is critical that you care for your watch properly to ensure that it lasts its full lifetime with you. When you care for your watch, you are giving yourself the guarantee that you will get a long life from that watch. Many people discover that simply by giving their watches regular maintenance care, they can have the same watch for ten or even fifteen years! Your watch becomes a real symbol that represents who you are. People remember you and your beautiful watch.

To be sure your watch runs well, any watch must be professionally serviced each year by a jeweler. When your watch is professionally serviced, they will check to make sure that each part of your beautiful timepiece is operating properly. They will confirm that it is keeping time appropriately. Your jeweler will also replace the battery and polish your watch to a fine shine. Along with a regular service appointment, take your watch in for cleaning and care as this is needed.

Most people discover that they can easily clean their watches at home. However a professional jeweler can supplement the cleaning you do regularly. Clean your watch with a cloth that does not shed or create any lint. These tiny particles can get caught in your watch and cause great havoc. Your jeweler may even sell appropriate cleaning supplies or have a suggestion as to where you can find them. When your watch is waterproof or water resistant, use a small amount of water and a gentle soap to clean your watch. Non water resistant watches can be polished at home, but for more thorough cleaning they will need to be taken to a jeweler.

A mild soap or baby shampoo can be ideal to use to clean your watch. Baby shampoo is well known for being quite gentle and having very pure ingredients. Another alternative is to look for a mild liquid hand soap without perfumes or coloring. The perfumes and coloring are unnecessary and you don’t need any excess ingredients interfering with your watch. Watches are very delicate instruments. Some get a bit over enthusiastic when cleaning their watch and their watch gets completely wet. Others may be distracted when they take on this chore, leaving the chore half done. It is best to take care of your watch when you have at least ten minutes of private time to yourself to focus on this task. Taking the time and being patient will show in the great care for your watch.

Any watch that you purchase will come with instructions as to how to care for it. Pay close attention to these instructions and use them as your guide. These instructions will help prolong the life of your watch.

Some watches have bands, which can be removed. When your watch band can be removed, such as a cloth or a leather band, then remove it before cleaning it. Use practical cleaning for leather or cloth without submerging the band in any liquid.

It is best to care for your watch as a regular habit. By marking a day each month as your day to notice your watch and to confirm that it is keeping time accurately and that it is polished and clean, you can prevent more serious chores for your watch that may need to be done. Many watches are so sensitive that when the watch battery begins to run, it will start to lose a few seconds. You can easily time your own watch and have a jeweler install a new battery before your watch battery runs down completely. There is almost nothing more frustrating than having your watch stop dead and have no idea what time of day or night it happens to be.

When we care for our belongings, they last longer. This has been shown time and time again. Learning about your watch and its needs will help you to care for it and let it last for as long as it possibly can. Fortunately many watches can last for twenty years or more. The watch you have today can easily be the beautiful timepiece that sees you through the next two decades. Take good care of your watch and your watch will take good care of you!

How to Find a Supportive Community: In Life and Diet

August 29, 2008

This interview is an excerpt from Kevin Gianni’s Renegade Roundtable, which can be found at http://www.RenegadeRoundtable.com. In this excerpt, Dhrumil Purohit shares on the importance of having a mentor and supportive community and how to find them.

Renegade Water Secrets with Dhrumil Purohit, the lead contributory, visionary and creator of welikeitraw.com and giveittomeraw.com.

Kevin: Why don’t you explain the importance of a mentor and the importance of community.

Dhru: Sure. I’ll start off with community. And what I’ll say first is that regardless of where you come from, regardless of where you are, and whatever your goal is, whether it’s a sports team, whether you’re in a book club, everybody finds that there’s benefits to having community. Every single person out there knows that friendships and authentic friendships and people who are supportive adds value to the journey. Because when those individuals aren’t there, when that community isn’t there, then you’re just doing something by yourself. And it’s not as fun, because you can’t share stuff. You can’t explore together with other individuals.

Where that started for me was family. And one thing that I noticed when I was a young kid, my family moved around a lot, and one thing that I would notice is that I would always look forward to getting together with my family. Because whenever I was with my family, even the most mundane task, whether it was washing dishing, whether it was sweeping the floor, whether it was doing homework, any task that I did with family, especially like my younger cousins, was always fun. Because when I got together with my younger cousins, we made everything fun because we had similar backgrounds. We were interested in similar things. And our goal was to not just get the job done, but actually to enjoy the journey, whatever it might be.

So when I got into college and I first started exploring with raw food specifically, one of the greatest benefits was that I had a mentor, which I’ll get to in a second. But another really great benefit was that, a lot of individuals, when they explore a new area of life like dietary things, they often notice that it’s a little bit different. You can’t hang out, maybe, with your friends in the same way. You might not be able to eat at the same restaurants that you were eating at previously. You might notice that some people might ridicule you on some level, because they feel that you’re doing something very different. You’ll notice a lot

of changes that might happen socially. But one of the things that I did is, instead of going within, instead of not jumping into community, I got involved in community even further.

The first thing I said is that, OK, I live here in Delaware. It’s one of the smallest states in the United States, and there’s not a raw food community here. There’s not raw food restaurants that are around here. So you know what? Let me be the leader. Let me create some community. And I’m going to start with just my friends that are local, here. So once a week, every Wednesday, me and my friends would get together at my apartment, and we’d all make a big kale salad, and they’re not even into raw food! They would just do it because they wanted to spend time with me. And I would do it because I just wanted to spend time with them. I’m not here to convert them. I’m not here to change their dietary

habits. I just want to enjoy good food with them.

And that was actually the basis of what started the website. Because what I notice is that any challenges I had, any things I wanted to do, like check out a new restaurant, it was so much more fun doing it with a community. And then the community grew from two to five to a lot of individuals that were at my local co-op. Then we started the website in about 2005, and any city that I could go to I had friends that were there. And I started noticing that one of the biggest things that people would talk about is they would say that, “Well I don’t have friends like you that are all into raw foods.” They said, “I don’t have friends like

Anthony and Phillip, who are other commenters on our website that also eat a raw food diet. I just met those guys. I haven’t know these guys my entire life. I just met those guys in November. For most of my life, I’ve hung out with people who haven’t been eating a diet that’s rich in raw foods or whole foods or anything else like that. They might have been brought up vegetarian because they came from an Indian background, but I’ll tell you honestly, that doesn’t mean a lot, because most of them just did it because their parents did it. Right?

So community is one of the biggest things. And for a lot of individuals out there that feel like they’re going on this journey by themselves, the number one thing I can say to you is, instead of waiting for somebody else to start community, maybe you could start that community. Maybe you could be that leader that could just get a few people together. Even if you start with just two people. It’s all about the conversations that happen, and it’s all about sharing and growing together as a community. So that’s on the community riff.

In terms of a mentorship, how do you select a mentor? Well, if people look at the mentors that I’ve had, and I’ve had probably over 13 mentors that are actual mentors in my life, that I have a dedicated relationship with, and I talk to on a regular basis, and they say, “Well I don’t know somebody like Serrano Kelley,” who’s one of my mentors in the world of spirituality. He coaches top CEOs on Wall Street. He’s friends with Bill Gates. He knows Oprah. I mean, he’s all over the place. They say, “I don’t have a mentor like that.” I didn’t start off with somebody like that. Right? I started off with just saying, OK, who are the people that I know in my life, and who is somebody that’s at a level that I would like to be at a little bit in the future? Not looking to the future, but saying this person has built some great things in their life that I would like to bring in my life as well, too. And that’s how my first mentor, Nature Love.

When you do that, what you get a chance to do is you get the chance to learn from others’ experiences. You get a chance to look at somebody else’s life and see what challenges, what things did they go through. And what can I learn from those things? You get a chance to ask questions. And so, even if you don’t have the most perfect mentor out there. Who does? I don’t even have the most perfect mentors out there. At least you can start with the people that you know in your life, right? And maybe you don’t even know them personally. You’ve just seen them around. You could reach out to them and say, “Hey you know what? I’d really love to learn from you a little bit. Once a week, would you mind meeting with me, or maybe just getting on the phone with me?” You know. And just talking a little bit and showing them that you could be a dedicated person that could listen to them.

Because I’ll let you in on a little secret. Mentors love sharing. People who have the heart of a teacher, they love to share. They love to take other people under their wing and at least teach them what they know so that other person could benefit. Because chances are, if you have somebody who has the heart of a teacher who’s a mentor, they’ve also had somebody in their life that took them under their wing, that they’re really thankful for. So, those individuals are all over the place. And when it comes to diet, it’s so important, because there’s so much false information and, you know, judgments, and wrong ideas out there.

It’s great to find somebody who actually has results. You can look at them and say, wow. This person looks good. They’re happy. They have some things that I’d like to bring into my life. Let me take them on, or let me ask them to take me on as a mentee, and let’s see what I can learn from them.

Kevin: You just mentioned false information. What’s your process that you go through in order to decide if it’s going to work for you or if it’s not?

Dhru: Sure. So ultimately, Kevin, just like yourself, I’m a big fan of your renegade health club videos, when it comes down to it, the buck stops at trial and success, because ultimately what people have to realize is that this journey involves trial and success, not trial and error. And I first learned about that through one of my mentors David Wolfe. David Wolfe had a lecture one day, was talking to an individual who was so fixated on needing the right information, he was like, “But how do you know how many milligrams of this and how many milligrams of that?” and David was like “Don’t you understand trial and success?” And he said, “Trial and success is the process of actually getting the chance to try something for yourself and if it works continuing, right? And continuing until you find something that works.” So that’s ultimately where we have to let things rest, is that if you want to try something out, now fortunately we live in the world where a lot of things that we can try out is not going to like, you know kill you, we’re not dealing with different prescription medications here and there, that it’s like if you don’t try the right one you could end up being dead. This is small things and you can make little tweaks along the way. All decisions are temporary, all decisions are temporary, so you can try something out if it works for you, great if it doesn’t your going to continue to try something out until you find out what succeeds.

Now to what information to try in the first place, well what information do most people try so far? Health is a very physical thing, even when you’re eating natural foods it should be a very physical thing. Does this person look good? Are they vibrant? Do they have eyes that really shine? Is that something that I want to bring in to my life? And then on a deeper level is to look at somebody and what they’re about and who they hang out with and just say OK, does this person seem like somebody that puts out information that’s good on a regular basis?
